Before you start installing Automox, make sure that:-
- Your Mac OS is up to date
Follow these steps to find and install any available software updates or upgrades
Step 1 - From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences
Step 2 - In the System Preferences window, click Software Update
Step 3 - Click "Update Now" or "Upgrade Now"
Software Update shows only upgrades that are compatible with your Mac

During the agent installation process on your computer, you will require a unique license key. You can locate this license key in your email inbox.
Step by step self-provisioning for your Macbook
Step 1 – From the email, copy the licence key
Step 2 - Click your computer type - macOs user to start downloading the installation package
Step 3 – Open the download file, click "Allow"
Step 4 - Follow the step by step on the prompt screen
Step 5 - Paste the license key (Automox Licence Key) when prompted during the installation process. In case you forgot to copy it at the beginning of this workflow, don't worry; you can find it again in your email.
Step 6 - Key in your laptop password when asked.
Step 6 - Move the installer to bin when you are done with installation to save your computer space.
Compulsory additional steps for Macbook M1 user
How do I know if my Macbook is M1?
- From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose About This Mac. You should see an overview of your Mac, including its model name and serial number.
Once you confirm that your laptop is M1, you need to add the following command to your computer to ensure that the patch management service is activated correctly:-
Step 1 - Open terminal. Navigate search, type "Terminal", click on the item
Step 2 - Copy the following command, and paste it in your terminal. click "Enter"
sudo /usr/local/bin/amagent --automox-service-account enable
Step 3 - You will be asked to key in your computer password, key in your password and click "Enter"
Step 4 - Copy and paste the second command. Click "Enter"
sudo /usr/local/bin/amagent --automox-user-prompt enable
Congratulation, Automox is now installed on your computer, and your computer is now protected with patch management services. Kindly inform you IT department accordingly.
